upGrad Co-Founder Launches BorderPlus to Connect Blue-Collar Workers with Global Jobs

upGrad co-founder Mayank Kumar and former Oyo executive Ayush Mathur have launched BorderPlus, a new talent mobility platform to connect Indian blue-collar workers with international job opportunities. The venture will initially focus on the healthcare sector in Germany before expanding to other industries and regions.

The two entrepreneurs, who previously worked together at the Parthenon Group over a decade ago, have structured their roles to maximize impact: Mathur will focus on addressing global workforce demand, while Kumar, who continues his role at upGrad, will lead talent acquisition efforts in India.

"Despite being the largest youth nation, there's a very severe opportunity gap in India that is restricting talent migration," Kumar said. "We have brought like-minded leaders together to revolutionize international recruitment and effectively channel India's demographic dividend towards the right global opportunities."

BorderPlus plans to leverage a proprietary technology platform to facilitate language practice through interactive spoken exchanges while streamlining international recruitment processes. After establishing its presence in healthcare, the company plans to expand into the hospitality, retail, teaching, construction, and logistics sectors.

The startup has ambitious geographical expansion plans, targeting entry into the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, other European countries, Japan, and South Korea within 6-8 months of operations. This expansion strategy draws on Mathur's experience in global markets, which he gained during his tenure at Oyo in its early days.

This venture represents Kumar's second entrepreneurial effort while he is still involved in the strategy and growth sectors at upGrad. The new partnership combines Kumar's expertise in education and skills development with Mathur's experience in global market expansion, positioning BorderPlus to address the growing demand for skilled workers in developed economies.
