Tesla Kicks Off India Hiring as EV Giant Readies Market Entry
Tesla has launched its first significant recruitment drive in India, posting 13 new positions on its website for Mumbai roles across vehicle services, sales, operations, and business support. The move signals concrete steps toward the electric vehicle maker's entry into the Indian market.
The job listings, which include a customer engagement manager position advertised on LinkedIn, come after Tesla secured office space in Pune last year through a five-year lease agreement with Tablespace Technologies for a 5,850-square-foot facility.
While Tesla has yet to announce its plans for India officially, the hiring push follows Elon Musk's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the United States. The company is reportedly scouting locations for showrooms in New Delhi and Mumbai, seeking spaces between 3,000 and 5,000 square feet with adjacent service centers.
India's recent reduction of import duties on luxury electric vehicles - from 110% to 70% for vehicles priced above $40,000 - has improved the business case for Tesla's entry. The company had previously backed away from Indian expansion plans due to high tariffs.
Tesla's current product line includes the Model S, Model 3, Model X, and Model Y vehicles, alongside the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi. The company also offers energy storage solutions through its Powerwall, Powerpack, and Megapack products, as well as solar panels and roofing.
