Swiggy to Launch 'Pyng' App for Professional Services as Part of Multi-App Strategy
Swiggy is preparing to launch a new app called "Pyng" for the professional services marketplace, marking a strategic shift toward a "house of apps" approach similar to Chinese tech giants Alibaba and Meituan. Currently, the business partner side of the app, known as Pyng Professional, has been launched.
The move comes as the food delivery giant unveiled Snacc, a dedicated 15-minute food delivery app, alongside its existing standalone apps Dineout and Minis. The latter is a direct-to-commerce (D2C) brand marketplace. The company's main app will continue to offer its current services unchanged.
This multi-app strategy contrasts with the "super app" model, where users access multiple services through a single application. Industry observers note that superapp concepts have yet to succeed significantly in the Indian market.
The competitive landscape in quick commerce and food delivery is seeing similar developments. Swiggy's competitor Zomato has integrated its 15-minute food delivery service within its main app, while its quick commerce subsidiary Blinkit has launched Bistro, a 10-minute food delivery app. Meanwhile, quick commerce player Zepto is expanding its food business through a separate app called Cafe.
"The idea is to have multiple available options, and some users will opt for separate apps for different needs," said a person familiar with the matter, speaking anonymously.
The upcoming Pyng platform, previously known internally as Yello according to earlier reports, has not yet been opened to users but is expected to launch soon.
