Swiggy Expands Railway Food Delivery to 100 Stations Nationwide
Swiggy has expanded its food delivery partnership with IRCTC to reach 100 railway stations across 20 states in India, marking significant growth for the program that began in March 2024.
According to a statement released by the firm, the food delivery company will continue expanding to additional stations in the coming months.
"Train journeys are an integral part of India's culture, and food plays a central role in that experience," said Deepak Maloo, Vice President of Swiggy Food Marketplace. "This expansion allows us to serve passengers with greater convenience and access to a diverse range of meals."
The service addresses longstanding challenges with railway food quality and limited options by enabling passengers to order from restaurant partners at upcoming stations along their route.
The expansion builds on Swiggy's initial railway offering, which kicked off last March when they first teamed up with IRCTC to tackle the notoriously hit-or-miss world of train food. By leveraging its existing restaurant network and delivery infrastructure, Swiggy aims to capture a portion of the massive railway passenger market.
Industry analysts note that railway food delivery provides steady daily demand, helping balance the lunch and dinner peaks typical in standard food delivery services. The company has not released specific transaction volumes for its railway service, but the rapid expansion suggests promising initial results from the IRCTC partnership.
