OpenAI has pushed its automated assistant Operator into new markets, making the tool available to ChatGPT Pro users across Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK.
The company's automated tool, launched in January, lets users hand over complex online tasks to AI. But European customers will have to wait. OpenAI confirmed on X that the operator hasn't yet been cleared for release in the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

The operator builds on OpenAI's Computer-Using Agent technology, blending GPT-4's visual skills with beefed-up reasoning capabilities. The tool works through its browser, where users can click buttons and fill out forms like humans would.

Once it's running, the system tackles repetitive online jobs by reading screens, typing, clicking, and adapting when things go wrong—all without human input.
This global push comes as OpenAI hits 400 million weekly users. The timing is notable, coinciding with former CTO Mira Murati launching her own AI startup and rumors that OpenAI might adjust its voting structure to block takeover attempts.

The European delay likely stems from the region's stricter stance on AI regulation than other markets. OpenAI hasn't given a timeline for when European users might get access to the tool.
