New Bangalore Platform Audition Unites Film Industry Under Single Digital Roof
A Bangalore startup has launched a specialized networking platform for actors, directors, and film enthusiasts in one digital space. Audition aims to tear down barriers to the film industry by creating direct pipelines between talent and decision-makers.
Joseph Amal founded Audition in 2023 after spotting significant inefficiencies in how the industry recruits fresh talent and connects with audiences.
"We wanted to flip the picture and bring the film industry closer to people. Why should it be so out of reach?" Amal told Startup Pedia.
The platform tackles multiple industry pain points. Aspiring actors create verified profiles with portfolios visible to legitimate casting directors. Film stars gain channels to share behind-the-scenes content directly with fans. Casting professionals can list specific roles with detailed requirements while the platform handles backend application processing.
For newcomers seeking their big break, Audition eliminates the common practice of sending countless unanswered messages across scattered social media platforms. The verification system helps protect actors from fraudulent casting calls.
"There is a clear absence of something that makes this process smoother and faster for an aspiring actor. For example, how do they even know the casting director they're constantly texting is legit?" Amal explained.
Amal, who studied at IIM Kozhikode before continuing his education in Paris, invested ₹2.5 lakhs of personal savings to launch the venture in 2022.
"I come from a fairly well-off family. My father runs a family business of builders. I've always learned the importance of community and togetherness from him," he said, linking these values to his platform's mission.
While seeking investment, Audition targets expansion beyond its Bangalore headquarters to create connections across domestic and international film industries.
