Microsoft has significantly expanded its AI offerings by removing usage restrictions on Copilot Voice and Think Deeper features for all users, bringing premium AI capabilities to the free tier of its Copilot chatbot service.

The tech giant's move follows its recent integration of OpenAI's o1 reasoning model into Copilot. This will provide users with advanced AI interactions, which were previously available only to paying subscribers or with strict usage limits.

Copilot Voice allows users to engage in natural spoken conversations with the AI assistant, including interrupting responses and asking follow-up questions—functionality similar to Google's Gemini Live. The feature has practical applications ranging from language practice and interview preparation to hands-free assistance for cooking or other activities.

Meanwhile, Think Deeper closely resembles ChatGPT's Deep Research feature as it also leverages advanced reasoning capabilities to tackle complex queries.

Analysts are viewing this freebie as a strategic competitive move within the increasingly crowded AI domain. As new entrants like China's DeepSeek emerge with similar capabilities, Microsoft appears to strengthen Copilot's position by democratizing access to premium features.

"This is clearly about market share and user retention," said a Silicon Valley-based technology analyst who requested anonymity. "By removing these barriers, Microsoft is attempting to establish Copilot as the go-to general-purpose AI assistant before competitors can gain traction."

While free-tier users now enjoy unrestricted access to these advanced features, Copilot Pro subscribers will continue to receive priority access to the latest AI models, early access to experimental features, and expanded AI functionality within Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
