Instagram Rolls Out New Features to Make Messaging More Fun and Functional
Instagram is taking its direct messaging (DM) experience to the next level with a set of new features designed to make conversations more interactive and user-friendly. The update, now available on iOS and Android—with web support expected soon—includes tools like instant message translation, music sharing, and more. Undoubtedly, these updates will try to position Instagram's messaging platform as a stronger competitor to apps like Apple's iMessage and other popular chat services.
Real-Time Translation for Cross-Language Chats
One of the most exciting additions is the ability to translate messages instantly within DMs. This feature is perfect for users who chat with friends or family in different languages. If you receive a message in another language, press and hold it, then tap "Translate." The translated text will appear right below the original message. At launch, the tool supports 99 languages, making it easier to connect with people worldwide.
Share Your Favorite Songs with Friends
Instagram has also introduced a fun way to share music with your contacts. Users can now send a 30-second preview of any track directly from Instagram's music library in group chats or broadcast channels. To share a song, tap the sticker icon in the chat composer, select "Music," search for the track you want, and hit Send. Global stars Jennie and Doechii helped launch the feature, encouraging users to discover new music while giving artists a fresh way to engage with their fans.
Schedule Messages for Perfect Timing
Instagram is rolling out a scheduled messaging feature for those who like to plan ahead. Like Apple's iMessage, this tool lets users compose a message, long-press the 'Send' button, and choose a specific date and time for delivery. You can schedule messages up to 29 days in advance, which is great for staying organized and ensuring your messages arrive at the right moment.
Pin Important Content for Quick Access
Another handy update is the ability to pin key messages, images, memes, or reels to the top of a conversation. This makes keeping important content within reach easy without scrolling through the chat. Just press and hold on to the message to pin something, then select "Pin." Each chat allows up to three pinned items; you can unpin them anytime by tapping on the content again.
Expand Group Chats with QR Code Invites
Thanks to QR code invites, adding new members to group chats is more straightforward. To create a QR code, tap the group name at the top of the chat, select "Invite Link," and choose "QR Code." You can share the code live through the app's share sheet or save it to your camera roll for later use. This feature makes it effortless to grow group conversations and bring more people into the mix.
