The Indian government is preparing to unveil the IndiaAI Compute Portal. This new platform will give state governments and central ministries access to subsidized computing resources for artificial intelligence projects.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the imminent launch, telling Moneycontrol the portal would go live within "7-8 days."

Under the initiative, the government will subsidize 40% of computing costs for eligible users.

The ambitious program will deploy 14,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) through partnerships with leading tech providers. Yotta Data Services is the most significant contributor, offering 9,216 GPUs, including 8,192 high-end Nvidia H100 chips. AWS, working through four managed service providers, will supply 1,200 lower-end GPUs, while Jio Platforms has committed to providing 312 advanced GPUs, split between Nvidia H200 and AMD MI300X models.

The GPU distribution reflects a strategic mix, with 70% being cutting-edge processors like the Nvidia H100, while the remaining 30% consists of older or lower-capacity units. Additional capacity may become available as companies like Jio Platforms plan to participate in the next round of bidding scheduled for April 30.

This infrastructure push comes as India seeks to develop domestic AI capabilities, particularly in light of recent developments like China's DeepSeek AI model. The government aims to equip researchers and startups with the computing power necessary to develop foundational AI models similar to those powering ChatGPT and Gemini.

The IndiaAI Mission has already circulated pricing details for compute, network, and storage services to all union ministries, departments, and chief secretaries, laying the groundwork for widespread adoption once the portal launches.
