Deloitte India opened its doors in Lucknow on Friday, betting big on Uttar Pradesh's growth story as the state chases its trillion-dollar economy dream. The new office comes barely a year after Deloitte planted its flag in Noida, bringing its India footprint to 19 offices spread across 14 cities.

UP Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh talked up the state's appeal to global players at the launch. "UP isn't just attracting companies now - we're pulling in businesses that want both massive scale and top talent," Singh said. "Having Deloitte choose us speaks volumes about where we're headed."

Singh pointed to the state's pro-business policies and infrastructure push as key drawing cards for the consulting heavyweight. Deloitte South Asia boss Romal Shetty didn't mince words about why UP caught the firm's eye.

"This state is absolutely booming," Shetty said. "It's already a testing hub with global reach, electronics manufacturing is taking off, and the semiconductor industry is right around the corner." What sealed the deal? According to Shetty, a mix of new roads and transport links, a buzzing tech scene, and plenty of skilled workers.

"We're not just about profit," he added. "We're backing India's growth story and lifting up communities. That's why smaller cities matter so much to us - they're where the next big wave happens." The Lucknow operation should create around 800-1,000 jobs, and the firm plans to expand over the next five years. It also plans to partner with local colleges and training centers to run skill programs and internships.

Deloitte's arrival couldn't come at a better time for businesses in UP looking to modernize. Local companies eyeing digital upgrades now have a global consultant in their backyard.

The move also gives Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath another win in his campaign to attract big names to the state, particularly in knowledge-based industries where UP wants to make its mark.
