Design platform Canva announced plans to strengthen its presence in India, its fourth-largest global market, by introducing localized content and enhanced AI-powered features. The announcement comes as Indian users created over 666 million designs on the platform in 2024.

During his first visit to India, Cameron Adams, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Canva emphasized the company's commitment to the market. "As our fourth-largest market, India continues to embrace Canva with incredible enthusiasm. We are committed to empowering our vibrant Indian community's creativity with localized features, innovative AI tools, and bespoke content," Adams stated.

The platform has seen strong adoption of its AI-powered tools in India, with the photo background remover emerging as the most popular feature. India also ranks among the top five countries for Canva's ready-to-use Work Kits, particularly in marketing applications. The country has shown significant uptake of Canva Video and Canva Websites services, placing it among the top three global users of these features.

In a significant move toward localization, Canva previewed its upcoming Hindi website, developed by local experts, with a full rollout expected in the coming months. The company also plans to introduce culturally relevant tools, such as WhatsApp templates, to enhance everyday communications for Indian users.

The platform has announced plans to expand its educational initiatives, offering Canva for Education free to all K-12 teachers and students while seeking to strengthen partnerships in the education sector.

Founded in 2013 by Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams, Canva recently hosted its first community event in India, bringing together over 100 creators, educators, partners, and brand advocates. The platform currently serves creative and design needs across enterprises, small businesses, consumers, and students in more than 190 countries.
