Balmer Lawrie Invests Rs 1 Crore in Pod Hotel Startup NapTapGo
State-owned Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd announced Thursday that it has invested Rs 1 crore in NapTapGo, a startup developing affordable pod hotels, as part of its annual startup funding initiative.
The investment aims to support innovation in India's hospitality sector through NapTapGo's compact, capsule-style accommodations, which combine luxury amenities with space-efficient design. The startup plans to integrate artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enhance hygiene standards and improve guest experience at its properties.
Pod hotels, an emerging global hospitality trend, offer travelers basic amenities inefficiently designed capsule-like rooms intended for short stays.
The funding comes through Balmer Lawrie's startup program, which partners with IIM Lucknow Enterprise Incubation Center. Beyond capital, the program provides startups with incubation support, mentorship, and industry networking opportunities as part of the government's Startup India initiative.
"We firmly believe that investing in innovation and supporting emerging entrepreneurs will contribute significantly to nation-building," said Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, Chairman and Managing Director of Balmer Lawrie.
NapTapGo founder Nitin Malhotra welcomed the investment, calling it "a testament to the government's commitment to fostering innovation in the tourism sector."
The company did not disclose the specific terms of the investment.
