Amazon has unveiled Nova Sonic, which is a revolutionary and fresh approach to voice AI that aims to make computer conversations sound more human.

Nova Sonic takes a new approach to voice processing. Usually, older systems break voice processing into three separate steps, whereas Nova Sonic handles everything in one shot. It understands what you say when answering in a natural voice.

"We used to need different tools working together," said Amazon in its blog post. By combining these functions, Nova Sonic can match its speaking style to yours and include natural pauses or handle interruptions like a person would.

The company built this tool for businesses wanting better customer service calls, travel booking systems, and applications in healthcare and entertainment. Amazon boasts that Nova Sonic costs roughly 80% less than OpenAI's similar GPT-4o model, making advanced voice AI more affordable.

This launch joins a crowded field in which OpenAI, Google, and Meta keep raising the bar for voice interaction quality, making older assistants like Alexa and Siri seem increasingly outdated.

At the same time, the company also released Nova Reel 1.1, a tool that turns text descriptions and reference images into short videos. It is aimed at helping marketers and social media creators create quick content.
